Amazon Sales Estimator
How well an Amazon product sells
What Is the Amazon Sales Estimator?
Amazon doesn’t publish sales figures, but it leaves clues, and the Amazon Sales Estimator reads them for any product: its Best Sellers Rank over the past year, how often that rank jumped (each jump is usually a sale), the "bought in past month" badge Amazon shows on busy listings, who wins the Buy Box and how often, every live offer, and what Amazon’s referral and FBA fees leave from a sale.
Key Features
How the Estimate Works
Each time a product sells, its sales rank improves for a while, then drifts back. Keepa records the rank every few hours, so the number of jumps is a floor on the number of sales: two sales between checks look like one. When Amazon shows a badge like "100+ bought in past month" on the listing, that figure comes first.
Who Wins the Buy Box
Most Amazon sales go through the Buy Box, so the share of time each seller holds it shows who really sells the product. If Amazon holds it most of the time, a third-party seller will struggle to win orders. The offers table links every seller’s storefront, so you can see who you’d be up against.
Fees Before You Source
The fee chart splits the Buy Box price into Amazon’s referral fee, the FBA fulfillment fee and what’s left. It leaves out the product’s own cost, shipping it to Amazon, storage and ads, so treat what’s left as a ceiling on your margin rather than the margin itself.
Common Use Cases
- Checking demand before sourcing a product to sell on Amazon
- Estimating a competitor's sales from the outside
- Seeing whether Amazon competes on a listing before you join it
- Watching how a launch or a price change moved the sales rank
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Amazon Sales Estimator free?
Yes. It's free with a ProxyHorizon account, and every account gets 25 runs a day shared across all our data tools. You can read about the tool without signing in, but running it needs an account because each run fetches live data.
How accurate is the estimate?
Rank jumps undercount, because several sales between two of Keepa's checks show as one jump, and Amazon rounds its monthly badge down (50+, 100+, 1K+). Both are good for comparing products and spotting trends. Only the seller's own reports give exact numbers.
What's a good sales rank?
It depends on the category. Big categories move more units, so #5,000 in Home & Kitchen can outsell #500 in a small category. Compare products within the same category, and lean on rank jumps and the monthly badge for volume.
Does it work for products with variations?
Yes. Amazon usually ranks all the variations of a listing together and shows one monthly badge for them, so the figures cover the whole listing. The result flags listings with variations.
Do you store my results?
No. We log which tool you ran, what you entered and when, so we can apply the daily limit. Results aren't saved, so export them as CSV or JSON if you want to keep them.
