Site Structure Checker
Score how deep and balanced a site is
What Is the Site Structure Checker?
The Site Structure Checker maps a site's URLs from its sitemaps and links, then scores the shape of it: how much of the site sits within three levels of the homepage, how deep the deepest pages go, whether one folder has swallowed everything, which folders are too thin to matter, and how clean the URLs are. Each finding shows the numbers behind it.
Key Features
Why Structure Decides What Gets Found
Pages close to the homepage collect more internal links and get crawled more often. Pages five folders down, in sections nobody links to, quietly fall out of view. A site doesn't have to be flat, but most of it should sit within a few steps of the front door, and the deep parts need a clear path to them.
How the Score Works
Each finding has a weight for how much it affects discoverability. A failure costs its full weight and a warning costs half. The score sums them up, so it's a summary of the findings, not a measurement of its own. Read the findings first: every one says what was measured, so you can disagree with a verdict and still use the numbers.
Common Use Cases
- Justifying a restructure with real numbers
- Picking which buried pages need links from strong pages
- Reviewing an inherited or newly acquired site
- Checking URL hygiene before a migration
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Site Structure Checker free?
Yes. It's free with a ProxyHorizon account, and every account gets 25 runs a day shared across all our data tools. You can read about the tool without signing in, but running it needs an account because each run fetches live data.
Does a deep URL always mean a problem?
No. A shop with a real four-level category tree can be perfectly healthy if its categories link down properly. The checker flags depth because it's where problems tend to collect, and lists the URLs so you can judge each one.
What counts as a thin folder?
A folder with only one or two URLs beneath it. Folders that small rarely get a place in the navigation, so their pages depend on being linked from somewhere else.
Can it find orphan pages?
It shows URLs that are in the sitemaps but weren't found through links, which is where orphans hide. Confirming a page has no internal links at all needs a full crawl of the site.
Do you store my results?
No. We log which tool you ran, what you entered and when, so we can apply the daily limit. Results aren't saved, so export them as CSV or JSON if you want to keep them.
