Sitemap Visualizer
Read any XML sitemap as a tree
What Is the Sitemap Visualizer?
The Sitemap Visualizer finds a site's sitemaps through robots.txt (or the usual locations), follows every sitemap index down to its URL lists, and shows what's inside: each file and whether it loaded, the entries as a folder tree with their lastmod dates, how fresh those dates are, and the mistakes that make search engines distrust a sitemap. You also get a clean sitemap.xml to download.
Key Features
XML Written for Crawlers, Read by People
A sitemap index pointing at eleven files, each with a few thousand lines of XML, tells you nothing at a glance. Here the files are listed with what each one holds, and the entries are nested by folder, so you can open the /blog branch instead of scrolling through four thousand URLs.
When lastmod Lies
Search engines use lastmod to decide what to recrawl, but only if they trust it. When every entry carries the same date, the date almost always comes from the last deploy rather than from the content, and crawlers learn to ignore it. The freshness chart and checks make that pattern obvious.
Common Use Cases
- Checking a sitemap before submitting it to Search Console
- Finding the child sitemap that fails to load
- Spotting stale sections from old lastmod dates
- Reviewing what a competitor's sitemap includes
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Sitemap Visualizer free?
Yes. It's free with a ProxyHorizon account, and every account gets 25 runs a day shared across all our data tools. You can read about the tool without signing in, but running it needs an account because each run fetches live data.
Do I need to know the sitemap URL?
No. Enter the domain and the tool reads robots.txt for declared sitemaps, then tries /sitemap.xml, /sitemap_index.xml and /wp-sitemap.xml if none are declared.
Can it read .gz sitemaps?
Not yet. Compressed sitemap files are listed with a note saying they were skipped.
What if a site has no sitemap?
The tool says so plainly. A sitemap isn't required, but without one search engines have to discover every page through links.
Do you store my results?
No. We log which tool you ran, what you entered and when, so we can apply the daily limit. Results aren't saved, so export them as CSV or JSON if you want to keep them.
