Technically the VPN is competent. Like several antivirus-brand VPNs, it is powered by Hotspot Shield infrastructure and the Catapult Hydra protocol, which generally yields fast connection speeds. The apps offer AES-256 encryption, a kill switch, and a simple interface, with a free tier that includes a limited daily data allowance for casual use.

The dominant consideration, however, is trust and jurisdiction. Kaspersky's Russian ties have made it the subject of sustained government scrutiny: the US government banned Kaspersky products from federal systems and, in 2024, ordered a broad prohibition on the sale of Kaspersky software to US consumers, with similar restrictions in other countries. While Kaspersky has relocated some data processing to Switzerland and undergone transparency initiatives, these concerns weigh heavily for privacy- and security-conscious users, regardless of the VPN's technical merits.

For users in regions where Kaspersky is unrestricted and who are comfortable with the brand, the VPN is a fast, simple option. For most Western users, the regulatory bans, jurisdictional risk, and trust questions make it difficult to recommend over neutral alternatives, and that is reflected in its lower rating here.
