Internal Link Checker
Test every internal link on a page
What Is the Internal Link Checker?
The Internal Link Checker lists every link a page makes to its own site, requests up to 60 of the destinations once each, and reports the broken ones, the ones that go through redirects and the ones that error. It also flags links with no anchor text, vague anchors like "click here", internal nofollow, and shows whether each link sits in the content, the menu or the footer.
Key Features
Fair to the Site
Some servers answer automated requests with 403 or 429 even when the page works fine for people. Those links are marked as couldn't verify, not broken, so the broken list only holds real 404s, 410s and failures. Each destination is requested once, a few at a time.
Anchors Are Part of the Link
Search engines read anchor text as a description of the page it points to, and screen reader users often jump from link to link. A link with no text, or with "read more", tells both of them nothing. Links that use an icon with an aria-label or an image with alt text are counted as named.
Common Use Cases
- Fixing broken links on a key page
- Cleaning up anchors on a cornerstone article
- Finding redirects left behind after a migration
- Checking how much linking happens in content versus menus
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Internal Link Checker free?
Yes. It's free with a ProxyHorizon account, and every account gets 25 runs a day shared across all our data tools. You can read about the tool without signing in, but running it needs an account because each run fetches live data.
Does it crawl my whole site?
No. It checks one page in depth. Sitewide link checking is a crawl, which is a much heavier job.
Why are some links "not checked"?
Each run requests up to 60 destinations so a page with hundreds of links stays quick and polite. The rest are listed with their anchors but no status.
Why flag internal redirects?
A link that goes through a redirect still works, but it costs a hop on every visit and every crawl. Pointing it at the final URL is a quick fix.
Do you store my results?
No. We log which tool you ran, what you entered and when, so we can apply the daily limit. Results aren't saved, so export them as CSV or JSON if you want to keep them.
